The Arts & Culture COVID-19 Relief Fund of the National Arts Council of Namibia (NACN) with the support of the Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture, is a temporary project-based relief fund to support the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs), to continue implementing their mandate and sustain their operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund is open to individual artists, cultural workers, groups, and registered organizations.
Thirty-five (35) eligible applications were received for the first cycle of review, including 20 individuals and 15 organizations. No group entries were received. Eligible applications were reviewed by the Arts and Culture Covid-19 Relief Fund Committee, which is composed of 7 experts from the public and private sectors in the fields of art, culture, heritage, craft, music, media, and law. They are:
• André Gariseb: A Social Entrepreneur and the Public Relations Officer (PRO) at Namibia Premier League;
• Beatrix Bianca Boois: A Legal Practitioner at BB Boois Attorneys in Oshana Region;
• Boyson Ngondo: Deputy Director in the Directorate of Culture and Heritage Programmes at the Ministry of Education Arts and Culture;
• Dalicia Olivier: Council Member at NACN;
• M'kariko Amagulu: Acting Director in the Directorate of Arts at the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture;
• Shareen Thude: Vice- Chairperson and Council Member at NACN; and
• Silvanus Owoseb: Choir Director at Brothers in Christ Church in Erongo Region
Funding from the first cycle will be awarded to the following individuals and organizations.

3. Simon Mwaundjange: Visual Arts, Khomas Region
4. Victor Mubiana: Craft and Design, Zambezi Region

1. Free Your Mind Entertainment: Comedy (Performing Arts), Khomas Region N$61,000
2. Obetja Yehinga Organisation Trust: Dance (Performing Arts), Khomas Region, N$50,000
3. Pencilled Casting: Creative Industry, Khomas Region, N$72,500
4. Playaville Theatre School, Theatre (Performing Arts), Oshikoto Region, N$74,200
5. The Ongoma Trust, Music (Performing Arts), Khomas Region, N$34,600
The total sum to be awarded for the first cycle is N$302,300.
The next cycle results will be made public on 13 and 28 August 17 September 1 and 15 October. Fund applications are open until 30 September 2020. The application toolkit is available online via the NACN website.
Physical applications may be collected from the Ministry of Education Regional Offices, across the country. Priority will be given to those that fall in special needs categories such as people with disabilities, marginalized communities, and rural and/or indigenous communities. The NACN would like to encourage nation-wide applications from all arts and culture sectors.
